David Ragan, driver of the No. 6 UPS Ford Fusion, qualified 5th yesterday and finished second in the Happy Hour practice session at Texas Motor Speedway. Ragan discussed his day on the track and what he needs to do come race time tomorrow.
YOU WERE FAST OUT THERE TODAY, ANOTHER GOOD DAY FOR YOU. "Yeah, the hard stuff starts tomorrow. Our car is fast and I think the Fords have always excelled at these mile-and-a-half race tracks. We always seem to go through a stretch like Martinsville and Talladega where we get frustrated and have bad luck and don't run as well as we should. Then we get back to a mile-and-a-half and get back to normal. Our car was very fast today and is really close to be really good."
IS IT JUST THE MILE-AND-A-HALF TRACKS THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE THIS WEEKEND OR IS THERE SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT TEXAS IN PARTICULAR BECAUSE FORD ACROSS THE BOARD HAS DONE VERY WELL THESE FIRST TWO DAYS. "Personally I like Texas. It is a great track that has aged well the last few years. It has a few bumps here and there and a lot of grip the first few laps and then you slow down some. I think it is that perfect state where over the course of a run you slow down a second, but on new tires you can really go fast. Texas is about a perfect mile-and-a-half, I would call it. The second groove looks like it will work in tomorrow. The Roush Yates horsepower is a big thing and our cars are handling pretty good."
WHAT IS THE KEY FOR YOU OR FOR FORD OR TO GO GRAB THE CHECKERED FLAG TOMORROW? "I think we need to keep our track position. We are all around the top-15 in qualifying which is good. We need to stay in the top-10 to top-15 all day. If you have one mistake and fall back it just seems like you can never get caught back up. If we have a good day on pit road with no mistakes, get on and off we will be okay. I think we have a car that is fast enough and driving well enough to be in the top-10 all day and go for the win."
