Lally Finishes 34th in TaxSlayer.com Chevy at Texas
Fort Worth, TX, (November 7, 2010) - Andy Lally drove the TRG Motorsports No. 71 TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet Impala SS to a 34th place finish in today's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) AAA 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Lally, from Northport, New York, started the race from the 22nd row. The sports car ace took up the challenge to maximize points for the team. With the goal of staying in the top 35 in owner points, Lally managed to lead a lap for additional points and bring the TaxSlayter.com Chevy home in a very respectable 34th place.
"It wasn't your typical smash, bang Texas race, except for the fight," Lally said. "I was happy with the way the car drove and we really didn't make any handling changes all race. I was happy to try different lines and maximize my time on the track. The team was really working the strategy so we could lead a lap, which we did, which may go a long way once we pull out of Homestead."
In very much a learning mode, Lally took every opportunity to turn laps and make sure he absorbed every bit of information.
"The car that the team prepared allowed me to experience a lot of different scenarios today. I ran in clean air and I ran in dirty air. I tried several different lines around the track and found some things that worked for me and some that didn't. It was great to experience Texas after having run Charlotte a few races ago. They look the same, but are very different."
Goal for the race was achieved - take the checker and keep our points.
"Our goal was to stay clean and run all of the laps. We were focused on staying in the top 35 in owner points. We were able to come away from here with a clean finish and a car in one piece - a successful day. I want to thank everyone at TRG Motorsports and TaxSlayer.com for giving me another opportunity to drive their car in the Sprint Cup Series."
Kevin Buckler, team owner, likes the progress that Lally is making every weekend.
"Andy did a solid job for us today," Buckler said. "We are running a different race than the majority of the field. We are solely focused on staying in the top 35 in owner's points and running our race to make sure that happens. We were able to lead a lap and gain five bonus points and we finished ahead of the some of the cars that we are battling. Andy is learning with every mile on the track and he was able to log a lot of laps today. That will go far as we continue to build our program for the future. TaxSlayer.com has been a great partner and important part of team this year. We are looking forward to closing out the season strong."
The team will travel to Phoenix International Raceway for the Kobalt Tools 500 to be run on November 14.
