Lally Ready for Texas in the No. 71 in TaxSlayer.com Chevy
Mooresville, NC, (November 2, 2010) - Andy Lally will drive the TRG Motorsports No. 71 TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet Impala SS at this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) AAA 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Lally, from Northport, New York, will be making his sixth NSCS start of the year at Texas on Sunday. Lally returns to the site of his first NASCAR start which took place in the Camping World Truck Series (CWTS) in 2007 behind the wheel of a TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado. He is also coming off of a 20th place finish in last weekend's CWTS race at Talladega.
Andy Lally "I am going back to where it all started with TRG Motorsports in NASCAR in 2007," Lally said. "Back then Kevin Buckler (team owner) had just bought Daryl Waltrip's truck team and Texas was the first race we did together. It is neat to go back to the site of my first NASCAR green and checker flag. To go back now in a Sprint Cup car will be pretty amazing. I did Charlotte a few weeks ago, so I have an idea of what to expect. However I hear from other drivers that the tracks are very different."
The team is 35th in owner's points which will guarantee Lally a start on Sunday.
"When we unload we focus a lot on the race set-up of the car. However, as a driver you want to show your stuff in qualifying. We qualified well at Charlotte, considering my experience level in the series. Although we have a guaranteed start, there are 49 cars entered this weekend and I want to qualify well."
Texas has its own special characteristics even though is a one-and-a-half-mile tri-oval.
"I am looking forward to the difference of the Texas track. I can bring the experience of my previous six starts this year to help the guys make the car as good as possible for the race. I am doing my homework and watching past Texas races. The racing groove goes from the apron to the wall and there are a lot different options of where you can run the car. I am hoping to give the TaxSlayer.com Chevy a good run this weekend."
Kevin Buckler is once again giving his ace sports car driver a start in the NSCS.
"Andy has shown marked improvement with each start this year," Buckler said. "We have been trying work him into as many races as makes sense this year. We seem to be the only team that is providing opportunities for new drivers in the series right now. Andy has laps at Texas from our truck days so he has a thin notebook to work from. This is a really exciting time for us. Our partners and the team have played our cards smart this season and we find ourselves heading into the last three races solidly locked inside the top 35 in owner's points. We took a slow and steady approach to this year. We are spending our limited funding wisely and are ready for a big ascension next year. We now understand the rules of survival as well as success a lot better than we did when we arrived two years ago. We are talking with several really fantastic partners for next year. 2011 should be a BIG year for TRG Motorsports - stay tuned. We have our friends at TaxSlayer.com on board this weekend and we are looking to give them a strong run this Sunday in front of the great Texas fans. TaxSlayer is a fantastic company and have been true partners to us. We are proud to have been associated with them as they have been a big part of our team and our future success. We couldn't have done it without them."
