Mooresville, NC - As planned originally in Team Gordon's limited schedule, the team will not be attending this weekend's race in Darlington, SC. Team Gordon and Robby Gordon will resume action the following week with the night race in Richmond, VA. In the meantime, Gordon plans a schedule that will include local testing in preparation for the Richmond race.
"Darlington is one of those tracks where we need time to test and get a feel for what it takes to be fast there," explained Gordon, whose previous visit to the 'track too tough to tame' this season produced a finish of 28th. "Our focus is on the 1.5 to 2-mile tracks like Charlotte and Atlanta and then we've hand-picked a few like Richmond, Rockingham and Phoenix where we should be competitive. Who knows, you'll probably see us at some others along the way too. We sat on the fence with Bristol for awhile before finally deciding to go and we had a very good weekend. Maybe that'll happen with some of the others. I'd like to get more time testing at places like Greenville before I hit the short tracks, however. Especially places like Martinsville."
Team manager Richard Buck shares the same sentiments, "Overall, we're very happy with our progress right now, I believe the path we're on is the right path and we'll continue to go forward. It's important to analyze why you have success and a big part of that is preparation. We set a course after Indy that would allow us to do things the way we felt they needed to be done to succeed and we're sticking to that. Obviously we're all racers here and would like to be at every race, but we have to be realistic and smart. One thing nobody enjoys is going to a track and being behind the eight-ball because we haven't tested or didn't have time to be 100% prepared."
