MARTIN TRUEX JR, NO. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS/TRACKER BOATS IMPALA SS -- Qualified 3rd
ON HIS QUALIFYING LAP:
"Our lap was really good. We all came down here getting ready for the race and we don't really do qualifying runs or know, this morning, really what we had. I'm excited for all the guys on the Bass Pro Chevy (team) and everybody at EGR. With Juan (Pablo Montoya) on the pole and us third, and both restrictor plate poles this year, so it's a big deal for all the guys at the shop, everybody at ECR engines and they've all done a great job in bringing us fast cars down here. I'm excited about the race."
YOU KNEW HOW GOOD THE EQUIPMENT WAS AT DEI AND THEIR SPEEDWAY PROGRAM. JUAN PABLO MONTOYA DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT THAT. HOW EXCITED ARE YOU FOR HIM?
"Yeah, I'm excited for Brian and all those guys on the team and Juan, and you know they really had good race cars. I think their engine package for the plate tracks, I don't think they put as much effort into it as ECR does and as DEI has done in the past. I think that's what really stepped up their program. They basically had cars that are very similar to ours when we went to Daytona and they both ran really well with our engines. I can't say enough about ECR and the work they've done since the middle part of last year on the restrictor plate engines. We came here last year in the fall and had really, really strong cars with Regan (Smith) almost winning the race and Paul (Menard) ran second or third there. I felt like we had one of the cars to beat until we got in an accident in the big wreck. But we went to Daytona and sat on the pole and Juan was strong there in qualifying and in the race. Today spoke for itself. He's real proud of the engine guys and everybody building the race cars at the shop."
HOW DOES JUAN PABLO MONTOYA RANK AS A RESTRICTOR PLATE DRIVER? WHAT MAKES HIM GOOD AND HOW HAS HE GOTTEN UP TO SPEED?
"I think he does a really good job. He's finished second here twice I think. It's hard to say how you rank. He's done a great job. He's got some great finishes. I think he's smart about the draft and he's calmed down since the first few races where he may have tried a little bit too hard all day or whatever. But he does a good job. He races smart. We worked together at Daytona quite a bit in the race and he made all the decisions I would have made when he was in front of me. I think tomorrow that's going to be important for us. We're going to try to work together as much as we can. Hopefully we'll be in position at the end of the race to help each other. I think that both of our cars will be capable of winning. You just need to put yourself in the right position and hope that you make the right decisions toward the end of the race."
