Robby Gordon ...
#13 Menards/Duracell Ford Taurus
Qualifying position - 34th
Time - 51.976 seconds
After Friday's qualifying time of 51.992 seconds placed him 33rd in the field provisionally, Robby Gordon elected to re-qualify Saturday instead of sitting on his time. His time of 51.976 seconds was only a slight improvement, but good enough to ensure Gordon a spot in the field.
ROBBY GORDON "I was a little disappointed because we didn't change much, and as a result our time didn't change much. But we were hesitant to make any drastic changes because we didn't want to go the other the way. It was a tough decision deciding whether or not to get in line and withdraw yesterday's time. The way it's set up in NASCAR, it's a little bit of a poker game as to who's going to go out and who's going to sit. Then to figure out who might be faster, it's maddening. But we made the right call today even though we didn't gain a ton. Last night we ran in the thick air and thought that might have cost us a tenth or two. With the air less dense today, we felt those tenths might come back. In practice this morning we ran a little bit faster without a tow, so we figured we'd be okay. But it wasn't much better when it counted.
"At Daytona we had a pretty good race car, but not a very good qualifier so we're hoping the same holds true for us here. The most important thing right now is for us to be in the show and we are. The rest of the afternoon in happy hour we'll be working on racing and seeing what the car can do in the draft."
