* Helmet Auction -- Gordon's race-thrown helmet received 55 bids and raised $51,100 for the Harrah's Employee Relief Fund. It also enjoyed being the number one watched item on eBay.
Two hundredths of a second is all that separated Robby Gordon's Chevy from making the Aarons 499 the last time the NEXTEL Cup series visited Talladega. Since then the team has gained much more confidence in its speedway program.

"This will be our third restrictor plate race with the same car. We know it's a good car. It ran very well in the qualifying race at Daytona in February and again in the race in July. The Menard Engine Group has been making steady improvements in the engine shop and hopefully this will be the weekend that we get some breaks and finally display the true potential of this team. We had hoped to have a completely new Speedway package for this week, however, the engine department found something it didn't like just a week or two ago so we'll be running the same motor package we ran at Daytona in July. The new restrictor plate motor will be ready for testing at Daytona in January and will give us a bunch of help."
Robby Gordon on last week's race at Dover
"The team once again gave me a car that was much better than the result. We had some issues with speeding on pit road and when our pit official's radio failed at about the same time there was some confusion on how I should serve the penalty. That effectively put us two laps down. Our pit stops were solid and car was fast off the corners. We had an engine failure that isn't yet fully understood, but from all indications it was a fluke that can be easily corrected."
