AMBROSE TAKEN OUT IN SPECTACULAR TALLADEGA CRASH

Marcos Ambrose has been taken out in a spectacular crash in the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama today.

Ambrose was running in the pack with three laps remaining when a 'concertina effect' resulted in the outside line crashing out.

The bumping and tight pack racing that is common in restrictor plate racing on superspeedways unfortunately resulted in a sickening crash for Ryan Newman in a wreck that also claimed Ambrose, Kevin Harvick and Elliott Sadler.

As part of the bump drafting, Ambrose was pushed from behind by Robby Gordon, pushing the Australian's #47 Kingsford entry into the back of Newman, who then slide sideways into Harvick, became airborne and flew end for end down the back straight and into the SAFER barrier at Turn Three.

Newman was extricated from his wrecked car by safety officials and was uninjured.

Ambrose was classified in 34th place, denying him the chance to get a fourth top 20 finish on a superspeedway this season. He now drops one place to sit 18th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings with three races remaining.

Ambrose started from 17th position after qualifying was rained out on Saturday and the starting line-up was set by Owner's Points.

Jamie McMurray won today's AMP Energy 500 ahead of Kasey Kahne and Joey Logano.

Ambrose will be back in action for the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas next weekend.

WHAT MARCOS HAD TO SAY --

"They checked up in front of me and I got hit from behind," said Ambrose.

"I don't know what started it all - don't know what caused it. I'm just thankful Ryan's (Newman) okay."
