KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger) -- 3rd
"It was a good race for our team and working together with other cars out on the track. Overall it was a successful. Any time you get to come to the media center after a race at Talladega is a good thing. For us to have a top three finish is something where we have to give the credit to the fab shop and body shop, all the guys who build these speedway cars. When you have a group of six-12 guys that dedicate their whole time to speedway cars, this is their time to shine in the sun. It was a good day for the Miller Lite Dodge. We worked through pit sequences all day. We never changed four tires. We changed two tires every pit stop. I thought that was a good pit strategy from our crew chief Roy McCauley and it enabled us to maintain good track position most of the day. I found Kasey Kahne at the end. You always look for somebody you can work with and Kahne did a good job pulling us up through and doing the bump draft thing. We just came up a little shy. The other guys were a bit stronger than us today, so we'll try harder next time."
COMMENT ON LAST LAP CRASH
"Vickers was in a Catch-22, whether to go for the win for himself or to help his teammate. He had every intention of helping his teammate. It just didn't turn out that way. I've been caught in that situation before where two teammates hook up on the radio during the yellow and say we've got to do this and we've got to do that. Those two probably had hand signals. I think Vickers was doing the best he could to help the 48. He didn't anticipate the block as large as the 8 car did. The 48 had to maneuver a little bit and the 25 was right on his bumper. He should have maybe given an inch instead of taking an inch the 48 needed and the 48 spun around into the 8. Here are Kahne and I racing. If we would race back to the checkered flag, one of us would probably be standing in victory lane instead of the 25. It's interesting with all the ways we have it set up, but obviously it's all about safety and putting on a good race."
WHAT WAS THE BUMP DRAFTING LIKE TODAY?
"It went through different stages. It goes through phases. Every time you take a lap off the board and get closer to the end people get more aggressive. You could definitely see it after the last pit stop. People want to move to the front to better their finish. Early on I thought it was great. Everyone yielded to one another. It was as if there were 43 question marks above every car as we ran around early on. It sorted out and I thought it was normal Talladega except maybe toward the end of the runs. With the old asphalt the cars would spread out a little bit. This time around everybody was on top of everybody."
COMMENT ON THE NEW TALLADEGA ASPHALT
"I think the paving job they created here is the best job I've seen at any racetrack we go to recently. That's where the kudos need to go to, the paving crew. They did a good job smoothing the surface. It was seemless between the high lane, low lane, middle lane, wherever you go. It made it comfortable and when you make a track more comfortable, it seems to equalize the cars even more. Taking a 64th away from the restrictor plates equalized the cars even more. What it does is create a great spectator view from the TV, from the grandstands. It creates an element to where you don't know who's going to win because it extends it to five or six more cars. It's good for competition. It's tough for the drivers, but all of the drivers say we can do something different at Daytona and Talladega"
COMMENT ON THE 8 CAR
"The 8 car could do what he normally can do at a restrictor-plate track -- that's pass at will and clear cars on his own. Again, they do their homework at DEI and they're fast. There was plenty of drafting help I got from behind from the 8 car, but when he decided I had enough, he shot out and passed me on the inside and got back in line. Not many cars can do that."
