Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins his third straight Talladega race in no. 8 Budweiser Chevy Monte Carlo.
DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 8 BUDWEISER CHEVY MONTE CARLO (third win a row in Talladega):
"Well, I don't know. Tony and them guys had a good enough car to pass me, but the thing was the pack kind of thinned out down to four or five cars. It's hard for just three or four cars to push one guy by the leader. You kind of need a whole pack back there really pushing. My hat's off to Tony Stewart for being a friend there and helping me out, sticking behind me. He's a great race car driver, true competitor. Good job for the Bud team for the car they put together. I'm just holding the wheel back there, Man. I ain't really doing much, just turning left every once in awhile. That car's got to go and the Bud team makes it go, and that's why we run good here."
DID YOU DO ANYTHING TO SAVE FUEL?
"Well, we already had good gas mileage, but I lifted a lot, especially the last half of the race. Tony (Eury) Jr. and them don't want to talk a whole lot about the car on the radio and stuff, just kind of keep things to themselves and make their own game plan. My guys started figuring out what we were dong there about midway through the race, (I) started lifting a lot, just made sure that we saved (fuel). I ran out coming down pit road here, so that's how close it was."
DID THEY ADVISE YOU EARLIER THAT THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAD TO PIT AND YOU WOULD BE OUT THERE WITH ABOUT SEVEN?
"I didn't have any idea, but I was sitting on the bus before driver introduction and I was figuring an average would be 38 laps, which is about how we could run, and most of them guys said they couldn't go to 31 or so, so I was really surprised they didn't get good gas mileage. As good as our motors run not to use that much gas. It just shows you how much power we've got. If we really put the fuel to it I'd hate to see what we'd do with it."
ON WINNING THE WINSTON NO BULL 5 MILLION:
"I'm real happy to do that two times now. It's a lot of pressure, I tell you. It's really a good feeling when you can pull it off. I hope that she really enjoys it."
