Been a really slow week for NASCAR. I couldn't even come up with news at
all yesterday. I've got some interesting information from Speedworld that
I'll post on the accidents at Talladega. Really brought back some
memories. I thought I'd share them.

Qualifying today at 3:00 central time. NASCAR Fans will cover it live on the OLD website. http://www.cs.mtsu.edu/~csvlh we still lack just a bit being ready to move to www.nascarfans.com. We have move plans to move until Monday at 8:00 a.m.

Spencer and Smokin Joe's to part ways in 1998 Inside NASCAR sources say that Spencer and Smokin joes will part ways in 1998. There is also a good possibility that Spencer will not drive for Travis Carter next year as well. The pressure on the Smokin Joe's image is said to be the problem with Camel in NASCAR. They are expected to bow to the pressure.

HISTORY OF MAJOR WRECKS AT TALLADEGA:

1. July 28, 1996 - Contact between Dale Earnhardt, Ernie Irvan, and Sterling Marlin sends Earnhardt into the outside wall at 190 mph, and then rolling over several times, crossing into the path of the entire field and getting hit several more times. Earnhardt ended up with a broken sternum and collarbone. 2. April 28, 1996 - Ricky Craven's car goes airborne in a multi-car accident and hits the retaining fence in turn 1. Craven suffered no serious injuries. 3. April 28, 1996 - Bill Elliott's car sails high into the air, getting vertical before slamming hard back down on to the ground. The impact breaks a bone near Elliott's hip and he misses 5 races. 4. July 23, 1995 - Jeff Gordon and Ken Schrader get together and Schrader's car flips end-over-end. Schrader suffered no serious injuries.

5. May 1, 1994 - A multi-car accident sends Mark Martin's car skidding down the track crossing pit road, smashing through a guard rail and chain link fence, and finally coming to a stop. Martin sustained no injuries. 6. July 25, 1993 - Neil Bonnett's car flips and becomes airborne on the front stretch and hits the catch fence. No injuries were sustained and the race was stopped to repair the fence.

7. July 25, 1993 - Jimmy Horton's car sails over the wall in turn 1, rolling down the hill, and coming to a rest outside the track. Horton was nut injured but Stanley Smith who was also involved in the crash was injured and was hospitalized for months.

8. May 2, 1993 - Rusty Wallace is bumped from behind by Dale Earnhardt as the two dash for the finish line. The contact sent wallace spinning and then flipping 10 times. Wallace suffered a concussion and broken wrist. 9. July 28, 1991 - Rick Mast's car flips over on the front stretch and slides over 500 feet on it's roof before finally coming to a stop. Mast was not injured. 10. May 3, 1987 - Bobby Allison's car gets airborne on the front stretch at 210 mph and smashes into the catch fence, ripping of it away. Allison was not seriously injured.
