A soggy day at the Daytona International Speedway also turned scary when eight people were treated after lightning struck a vendor display set up outside of the speedway. Luckily, everyone was released with no serious injuries.

Winston Cup practice began at 3 PM, but was cut short after only 40 minutes and NASCAR quickly forced the evacuation of the metal grandstands knowing storms were in the area.

Track drying efforts began at roughly 6 PM est. Qualifying for Saturday night's Pepsi 400 under the lights is scheduled for 8 PM, weather permitting.
