Stewart vilification unfair - Carpenter

Ed Carpenter is unhappy with the coverage and tone towards Tony Stewart in the recent fatal accident in New York.

Tony Stewart has found another ally in the racing world as Ed Carpenter spoke about the vilification of Stewart in regards to the incident at Milwaukee this past weekend.

Stewart was involved in a fatal accident that saw his car strike Kevin Ward Jr. at Canandaigua Motorsports Park two weeks ago.

I don't agree with how much he's been vilified. I don't think that part's fair,

Since the incident, and no final investigation report from authorities, the internet and media has been running wild with speculation.

"I feel for the Ward family, and I feel for Tony Stewart, too," Carpenter told USA Today.

"He's going through a hard time and I don't agree with how much he's been vilified. I don't think that part's fair, with how much speculation there's been. It was a tragedy. In my eyes, it was an accident. It should never have happened."

Carpenter admitted his concern that the non-racing fan will be watching mainstream media cover the tragedy showing clips of Stewart’s famous temper.

Waiting for evidence

“Until I'm presented with some more clear evidence, I have a hard time believing he did anything with malicious intent. It was a bad circumstance. I'm sure he's having a much harder time than probably a lot of people realize. No one can undo what happened. It's a terrible tragedy,” Carpenter said.

With a background in winged-sprint cars himself, Carpenter also backs the theory as to the visibility out of the right side of those cars.

“You have a hard time seeing something to the right side," Carpenter said. "There's only one person that knows what happened and he's, wisely I think, not saying anything right now. I think it was just a terrible accident.”
