NASCAR announced today that Tony Stewart (Home Depot No. 20 Pontaic) has been fined $10,000 and placed on probation for five months.

After the checkered flag, Stewart rammed his car in the Jeff Gordon's (Dupont No. 24 Chevrolet) on pit road in retaliation for a last lap incident in Sunday's race. On the last lap Stewart's and Gordon's car made contact between turns 3 and 4. Stewart's car spun and a sure top five finish was turned into a 25th place one. As the cars were entering the pits after the cool-off lap, Stewart drove up behind Gordon, hitting him with enough force to cause Gordon to spin sidways in to the wall separating the pits from the track

Stewart was fined and placed on probation until Aug. 29 for violating Section 12-4-A in the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series rule book: " . . . actions deemed by NASCAR Officials as detrimental to stock car racing. .."
