DHL to sponsor 'DHL 400' ar Michigan International Speedway on June
The Worlds Leading Express & Logistics Company Makes First Venture into NASCAR
BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Michigan International Speedway (MIS) and DHL company officials jointly announced today that DHL, the world's leading express and logistics company, will make its first venture into NASCAR by title sponsoring the DHL 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at MIS on Sunday, June 20, 2004.
In a defining moment for the U.S. express delivery market, DHL completed its acquisition of Airborne Express in August 2003, bringing much-needed competition to the US market. Long a market leader in international express delivery and logistics, the company is now focusing on expanding awareness of its services in the United States through a comprehensive brand building and awareness campaign.
"Sponsoring the DHL 400 affords us the opportunity to build brand awareness of our flexible, innovative and service-oriented products here in the U.S.," said Karen Jones, vice president of brand management for DHL-Americas. "This partnership fits well within our overall campaign to establish DHL as a strong, third competitor in the domestic express and logistics market."
As an official sponsor, DHL will have an extensive presence at the Michigan International Speedway in advertising, branding and corporate hospitality. Specifically, the company will have signage throughout the track and advertising space in the official souvenir program, in-field Jumbotron, public address announcements, and customer video e-mail. The agreement also calls for corporate hospitality events at MIS in June and August.

The DHL 400 will be the first of two stops for the premier NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series at MIS in 2004, with defending race champion Kurt Busch looking to repeat as DHL 400 champion on June 20.
