LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas chapter of Speedway Children's Charities will present its second-annual NASCAR Driver Auction on Thursday, March 1, 2001, in the Bonanza Room at Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Las Vegas at 5:30 p.m.
NASCAR Winston Cup Series drivers scheduled to appear for the auction include: Mike Skinner, Brett Bodine, Jimmy Spencer and Stacy Compton. The NASCAR Busch Series will be represented by 2000 champion Jeff Green, Jason Keller, Chad Little, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Green, Kevin Grubb, Chad Chaffin, Marty Houston, Tony Raines, Rich Bickle, Ashton Lewis and Raybestos Rookie of the Year title contenders Jamie McMurray and Scott Wimmer.
Fans are invited to bid on a chance to ride with their favorite Winston Cup driver in a convertible during driver introductions for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 on Sunday, March 4. Winning bidders on Busch Series competitors will meet their drivers prior to the start of the Sam's Town 300 on Saturday, March 3.
The auction will kick off the charity's 2001 fundraising campaign. Speedway Children's Charities grants funds to organizations which directly impact the health and welfare of local children. Over $100,000 and 13 computers were donated to 10 local groups at last year's grant distribution ceremony, held December 15 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
"Last year's auction was a tremendous success, and our 2001 edition will be even bigger," said event chairperson Missy Powell. "This event is so important as a launching pad for our year-long fundraising efforts. We sincerely appreciate the drivers taking time out from their busy schedules to participate and of course the fans who support this worthy cause."
Many of the drivers participating in the auction are expected to attend a concert by country music star Travis Tritt later that evening at Sam's Town Live! -- Sam's Town's new showroom -- at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the concert are available online at Tickets.com, or by calling Sam's Town at (888) 464-2468.
Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall is located at 5111 Boulder Highway, near the corner of Nellis Blvd. & Flamingo Rd.
