MARCOS AMBROSE, No. 47 Clorox/Kleenex Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty
Starting Position: 6th
What happened through turn 11 on your qualifying lap? "I made a mistake and had too much speed, actually had my right foot caught between the brake and the throttle and carried a lot of momentum and couldn't make the turn. I run those two pretty close together for these road course races and was maybe just a little bit anxious. I knew I really had to make up some time. I just had my foot an eighth-of-an-inch too far to the right hand side of the brake pedal. I'm kicking myself. I don't like making mistakes. We had a great car. We're not going to get the pole with that lap, but at least we're in the front half of the field. We'll be ready to rock and roll for Sunday."
Have you been looking forward to this race all year? "It's too important for us, really. We're putting so much on us this weekend that it doesn't help you do what you have to do on the race track. We've had a terrible year and are trying to bounce back. We just want to get through this weekend, hopefully with a top-five, challenge for a win and hopefully get our season really going."
MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip
Starting Position: 10th
How was your qualifying run? "It was really good until turn 11. I just got loose. I must have just carried a little bit too much speed. It's really tricky here, especially turn 11 because you brake so far, and it's the second slowest corner in the race track. If you're not at the exact right speed when you turn, you're either going to push or you're going to get loose. I guess I must have been going a half-a-mile an hour too fast because I did exactly what I've been doing all day, but I just tried to roll in a little bit faster and I got loose and washed out. That was it. I think we were going to be on the pole until then. We were really fast."
How will your race car be for Sunday? "We have all day tomorrow to work on it. Today in race trim we were really fast but we fell off a little much. We'd get loose and over heat the rear tires so we'll work on that tomorrow and hopefully get it fixed."
DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Starting Position: 12th
How was your qualifying run? "It was alright. We picked up from practice, which is good. That's kind of hard for us to do. We were just really tight. We have some ideas though to make it better tomorrow." What do you have to do tomorrow to get your car ready for Sunday? "We're going to have to throw stuff at it because we are still a half second off from those guys. We need to close that gap. We're going to kind of throw a new setup in there tomorrow and see what happens."
ROBBY GORDON, No. 7 Monster Energy Toyota Camry, Robby Gordon
Starting Position: 16th
JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Starting Position: 20th
How was your car during qualifying? "It wasn't too bad. We picked up quite a bit, which I thought we would too from practice. I got behind a lot of cars and killed my lap. We were trying for the speed but are still off. I felt like we're just not fast. I don't know what it is. It's all three of us not going fast right now. We have to figure something out but that's what we have all day for tomorrow."
How was your qualifying lap? "The qualifying lap was messy, honestly. Mattias (Ekstrom) and I are really struggling getting something that's drivable. Everyone is or everyone's car isn't handling or could be a lot better. When you put a car with this amount of weight and that much horsepower around a track like this, you're always going to be fighting into some kind of problem. The key is still having good drive off in the race and that's where we're struggling at the moment, juts getting off the corner and being able to put the 800 horsepower down. If we can improve on that tomorrow, we have a good shot at a solid finish then I think at the end of the day, it's going to be about staying out of the wrecks."
KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Pedigree Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Starting Position: 27th
JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports
Starting Position: 28th
MAX PAPIS, No. 13 GEICO Toyota Camry, Germain Racing
Starting Position: 29th
How was your qualifying run? "It wasn't as good as I was expecting. It was quite solid. I kept locking up my tires and we need to understand why. I drove offensively. But this is a very finicky track. We've really got the handle pretty good during practice and this qualifying lap you always have to learn something new. I was pretty proud of the job I did and proud of the job everyone did on the GEICO team, it's just that it's not easy to put it all together all the time."
DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 00 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Michael
Starting Position: 33rd
How did your race car handle during qualifying? "The Aaron's Dream Machine was just too loose. We were loose all over and we didn't have the side bite we needed. We've been working hard on our road course effort for the last couple months, so I'm pretty disappointed right now. We'll just keep working on it and try to get better by race time."
P.J. JONES, No. 07 SpeedFactory.TV Toyota Camry, Robby Gordon
Starting Position: 35th
How was your race car during qualifying? "We made some good progress from the practice and then I made a few rookie mistakes. I lifted a little early on the start-finish because I wasn't sure where they were going to wave me off so there was some confusion. We made good progress and I think we'll be good for the race."
