Skip Eyler Joins Roush Racing as TV Guide/PRIMESTAR Crew Chief

LIBERTY, N.C. (April 20, 1999) * NASCAR crew chief Skip Eyler joined Roush Racing today to head Kevin Lepage's No. 16 TV Guide/PRIMESTAR-sponsored Winston Cup team. Eyler will take the reigns following Sunday's DieHard 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Eyler rejoins Roush Racing after a successful tenure as crew chief for the No. 97 John Deere Ford in 1997, and most recently as crew chief of the No. 91 Chevrolet. Eyler, 35, will act as crew chief and direct the team's racing operations with team manager Harry McMullen. Eyler is familiar with the Roush Racing Liberty shop, as he was car chief on Mark Martin's Winston Cup car in 1996. Eyler has a full resume that includes work for prominent NASCAR teams such as Cale Yarborough Motorsports, Dick Brooks Racing, Sabco Racing, and Rudd Performance Motorsport. "I'm excited to work with Kevin (Lepage) and the TV Guide/PRIMESTAR team," said Eyler, the Roanoke, Va., native who worked out an agreement Monday to join Roush's 5-car Winston Cup operation. "They're heading in the right direction now, and I'm just excited that Jack Roush would give me the opportunity to be a part of this team. There is a lot of potential in this team, and I already know that Jack gives all of his teams the chance to go out there every weekend to contend for the win." "Skip will be a good fit for the No. 16 TV Guide/PRIMESTAR team," Roush said. "He has worked with Roush Racing before, and is familiar with the equipment we use. Skip has a good understanding on how to setup up a competitive race car, and I fully expect this team to show consistent results." "We're ready for the stability Skip will bring to this race team," said Lepage, who is in his second season with Roush Racing, joining the organization midway through his rookie season. "With the addition of Skip, we are getting a chassis specialist and an organized leader. This will hopefully complete the puzzle and bring this team up to its full potential."
