FIELD: 36 cars. Starting positions 1-20 will be determined by time trials (2 laps), on Friday, June 20. Second round time trials, to be held on Saturday, June 21, will determine starting positions 21-32. Positions 33-36 will be available to any of the top 30 eligible drivers in the current 1997 NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series Championship point standings, who have entered the event, but have not qualified for one of the original 32 starting positions. If a starting position(s) remains unfilled, then that starting position(s) will become available to the next eligible car from the qualifying procedure for the event.

THE RACE: The Pep Boys 200 is the eighth of 20 races on the 1997 series schedule. Consisting of 200 laps, the event is regarded as the most challenging of all series events for the competitors on the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series. Coupling the high banked turns, concrete racing surface and lightweight race cars, there is a necessity to run restrictor plates on the cars' 9.5 to 1 engines to moderate the attainable speeds at this 0.533 mile oval.

1996 REVIEW: Mobile, AL's Rick Crawford, a driver who loves to run wide open, picked up the victory in the Gambler Bass Boats 200. Rounding out the top five were Conrad Burr, notching his best ever series finish, eventual '96 Series Champion Mike Cope, Wayne Anderson, son of Series Track Record Holder Dick Anderson and the Surfer Dude, Sean Monroe, who hails from Malibu, CA and drives a car owned by '96 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday, Jr.
NOTES OF INTEREST: Over 50 cars have pre-entered this 200 lap event which carries a maximum starting field of 36 racers. Crawford, last year's winner, has moved on to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series as has '96 Series Champion Cope. Burr, Anderson, who won the last series event at Myrtle Beach Speedway, and Monroe return from last year's top five finishers. NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Rich Bickle has entered the event in a Gene Isenhouer owned Chevrolet.could he be looking for an edge over his fellow truck competitors by running this preliminary? In car cameras will be utilized in Ken Alexander's #03, Larry Raines' #14 and Wayne Anderson's #25. Should any of these three fail to make the race look for in car cameras to be placed into Carl Long's #15, Steven Christian's #0 or Scott Sutherland's #88.
