Marlin Experiences Engine Problem at Infineon Raceway

SONOMA, Calif. (June 24, 2007)-- It was another frustrating weekend in Northern California for Sterling Marlin and his No. 14 Ginn Racing team.

After wrecking on Lap 1 during last year's Nextel Cup event at Infineon Raceway, Marlin was hoping to spend more time touring the 1.99-mile road course in Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350. But on Lap 12 of 110, the Wiley X Chevrolet experienced an engine problem and the team was forced to retire from the event, recording a 43rd-place result.

"We don't have much luck at these road courses," said Marlin, who started the race from the 20th position. "In two years we've only completed 13 laps and haven't even made a pit stop. It's frustrating to come across the country and not get a chance to show what we have."

"The Wiley X Chevy was pretty good out there and I really think we were looking at a decent finish," added Marlin.

The 43rd-place finish Marlin was credited with dropped him three spots to 28th in driver the point standings.

"We get on a little bit of a roll and start to climb in points and then things like this happen," said crew chief Slugger Labbe. "It's hard to swallow, but it is what it is. All you can do is keep going and hope for better things next week."

The Nextel Cup series will now head to New Hampshire International Speedway for Sunday's (July 1) Lenox Industrial Tools 300.
