Michael Waltrip Thanks NAPA and Gives Stamp of Approval for McDowell to Carry Shield on His #00 Toyota Camry at Infineon
SONOMA, Calif. (June 17, 2008) -- NAPA (National Automotive Parts Association) takes pride in team effort, expectations and results and so does Michael Waltrip and his #55 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry team. On Sunday at Infineon Raceway, Waltrip will have fans seeing double with Michael McDowell carrying the NAPA shield on his #00 Toyota Camry as a sign of gratitude for NAPA's continued support.
"We are taking Michael McDowell to Infineon Raceway in a NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry because it is a chance to say thanks to NAPA and all the fine people who represent them," Waltrip said.
NAPA has supported Waltrip since 2001 and together they won their first race, the prestigious Daytona 500. Since then, NAPA has visited Victory Lane a total of four times with Waltrip, including a second Daytona 500 win in 2003.
"They are wonderful supporters of mine so I would like to say thanks for everything they have done for me," Waltrip continued. "McDowell is going to California to showcase his specialty. His experience is in road racing. He is very talented and was very impressive at the Virginia International Raceway test we did two weeks ago. As for me, I had a top-five finish at Infineon in 2004 and I have always run well there so I am really looking forward to having two NAPA cars on track and in the race. NAPA will have twice the chance of getting great exposure."
McDowell is humbled by Waltrip's confidence in his ability and is proud to be affiliated with NAPA and Michael Waltrip Racing.
"NAPA is an invaluable partner to Michael Waltrip and each of us know the importance of all of our sponsors," McDowell said. "We have had a tough go at it, but we believe in ourselves and know we are capable of producing results. Michael Waltrip Racing's sponsors are incredible and believe in us and our goals to perform. Michael is giving me a chance to race for NAPA again, a privilege I had a couple times last year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. They are a great organization and I am glad to have an opportunity to represent them alongside Waltrip."
