Bobby Hamilton and the Morgan-McClure crew return to compete in the Save Mart/Kragen 350 Winston Cup race at Sears Point raceway with hopes of gaining bragging rights for a road course win. Although Hamilton doesn't necessarily like road courses, he has gained a new confidence in racing on them since he began driving for the No. 4 Kodak MAX Film team. He finished second to Jeff Gordon in the 1998 event (his first top-10 finish in six starts at the track) and took home an 11th-place position in the 1999 event after running in the top-ten for a portion of the day. Morgan-McClure Motorsports has a win at Sears Point in the 1992 Save Mart 300 with Ernie Irvan. They also hold the track record for a race (81.413, 2 hours, 17 minutes on June 7, 1992) at Sears Point Raceway with Ernie Irvan. Since 1991, the team has posted 4 top-fives on the road course. "If you have a good car, its a blast to drive the road courses. It's easier and a lot more fun if you've got a good race car. We've got the esses figured out. We've got to figure out the rest of the 25 turns," Hamilton said. "Goodyear has a good tire. It runs forever. I just have to be careful not to run them in the ground. If you conserve fuel and take care of the tires and brakes, usually you can get a decent finish. That is if cars don't spin in front of you on every lap. "We need a good run. The team needs one and so do I. I would be happy with a top-ten. I really want to win a race, but I'd be happy with a decent finish. "I'm a better road racer now. I feel confident about road racing. I really think I am as good as many of the drivers out there. It is just a matter of getting everything else to gel. The team has the know how to win these things. "I really like the trophy at Sear's Point. I think it is one of the most unique on the series. I certainly would like to add it to my collection. It's pretty cool. "If I can get into a good rhythm and get a car that I can really feel up under me, then I think we have a decent chance. Two years ago, the car was awesome. I drove hard, through the gravel, the dirt and everywhere else and the car was just flawless. We are trying for that same combination this go around. "Realizing the season we've had, a win seems tough. We can do it, although it is easier said than done. I guess we might be on a mission in Wine Country."
