Five NASCAR Drivers Learn Sears Point at the Russell Racing School

Sonoma, CA. Indy Racing League Champion and NASCAR Winston Cup rookie Tony Stewart, along with follow NASCAR drivers Kevin LePage, Chad Little, Steve Park, and Derrick Cope spent the day at the Russell Racing School at Sears Point Raceway driving open-wheeled Formula Russell cars. The stars of NASCAR Winston Cup enrolled in a one-day driver development program and worked on learning the racing line while refining their road racing skills in preparation the Save Mart/Kragen 350 NASCAR Race on June 25 - 27.

Senior Russell instructor, Mark Wolocatiuk, give Stewart high praise at day's end. "Tony was very good. He hasn't done any road racing so he was very open to learn as much as he could about the track and the techniques used. He didn't assume anything, had a great attitude, all of which makes for a great student. He could be very competitive when the series comes here in June."

LePage, who has driven Sears Point before, chose to take another approach. "Since we will not be here for the (scheduled NASCAR open test day) next week, I wanted to work on qualifying runs. So I did some practice laps to get use to the cars and check out the track, and get my shift points. I then ran two-lap sprints." LePage's times dropped several seconds after some changes he and instructor Ric McCormick made in how he was approaching the track.

Russell Racing School offers racing courses and private driver coaching for all levels of racing experience. Call Russell Racing at 707-939-7600 for more information, or visit their website at www.russellracing.com.
