INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Robert Yates' No. 28 Texaco/Havoline Ford has been the car to beat in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on more than one occasion. Yet, the car has yet to reach victory lane. Ricky Rudd visited victory lane at the famous speedway in 1997 when he owned his own team. He sees the famous No. 28 car as the key to a return visit. "Robert is known for horsepower and those are very long straightaways," Rudd said. "This car has always been fast at Indy and I think we have a very good car for this year's race. I would like to be the guy that finally gets the Texaco/Havoline No. 28 into victory lane." In the inaugural Brickyard 400, Ernie Irvan had the car in the lead a few laps from the end when a cut tire took away what looked like a possible win. Dale Jarrett finished third in 1995 aboard the No. 28. In 1996, Jarrett won in a Robert Yates-owned team car while Irvan drove the No. 28 to a second-place finish. Jarrett earned Robert Yates Racing a second Brickyard triumph last year. For Rudd, Indianapolis Motor Speedway is truly a special place. "I grew up in go-carts and figured I would someday race Indianapolis," Rudd said. "But, when I went stock car racing it looked for the longest time like that wasn't going to happen. I was part of a test in the late 80's at Indy and it was so neat to drive around that track. "Indy is like going to a museum or historical landmark and being able to race around it. It's the only place where all three major forms of racing worldwide compete, so it's truly a special place." Rudd has his name on that landmark as a one-time Brickyard 400 winner. He wants that to change to a two-time winner on Saturday.
