As the 2012 NASCAR season comes to a conclusion with two races remaining, Roush Fenway hopes to continue its successful track record at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend. Throughout RFR's 25 years in NASCAR competition, the team has experienced tremendous prosperity at PIR dating back to 1993 when Mark Martin and the No. 6 Ford team attained its first Sprint Cup victory at the raceway.
RFR's current stable of drivers have made their presence felt at PIR. Chase contenders Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle have accomplished multiple wins within three NASCAR divisions. Kenseth achieved his first drive to Victory Lane at PIR in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2002, and again in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in the fall of 2006. Biffle earned his first win at PIR in 2001 racing in the Camping World Truck Series, he then went on to achieve two NNS victories, one in 2001 and the other in 2009, where he garnered RFR's 100th overall NNS win.
RFR's current NNS championship driver, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., has also displayed stellar numbers at PIR with two top-five and five top-10 finishes. But, perhaps no one from RFR has excelled more at PIR than Carl Edwards. He has had overwhelming success at PIR earning four NNS wins and one Sprint Cup win. He swept the races in 2010 by winning both NNS and NSCS races in the same weekend when he also became one of four Cup drivers to win from the pole. In addition, he holds the track Sprint Cup qualifying record where he posted a top speed of 137.3 mph.
Although Edwards is not in the 2012 Chase, with his 300th-career Sprint Cup start approaching this Sunday a win at the "Jewel of the Desert" may be just what he needs to finish his season on a strong note.
