Rockingham has been a track that's been a real challenge for you. Why do you think that is?
"In the past it certainly has and I'm not totally sure why. But last year in the fall race, I think we found the right combination for our car to run well and actually have a shot to win. I was running in seventh until we cut down a tire about halfway through the race. It was a real let down for us. It's no secret the Rock is like driving on sand paper. It's tough on tires. To run well, you have to figure out how hard you work the tires to maintain a good track position."
"For me, personally, I am looking to get the car to slide an equal amount in the front and back with a significant amount of grip. I need the No. 54 National Guard car to do that in all four corners. This is a track where each corner is as important as the last. A good set up is essential. If you miss it a little, it translates into a lot."
"What I like about this place is the fact it is a driver's track. It requires a lot from me at all times. I've got to respect the fact that this place is very fast but hard on tires. Any time we can pit under caution, we'll do it just to get fresh Goodyears."
"At the same time, I'll have to constantly test which groove is the fastest. That fact will remain constant throughout the day. I've got to be able to find which groove at a specific time carries the most speed. The Rock is great in the fact that I'll have several options out there to try and plenty of room out on the track that makes passing possible."
"Derrick and I are going to use last year's notes and build upon what we have learned. I'm excited to get back there because I think we'll have a shot at having another good run."
