TONY RAINES, NO. 74 BACE CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: Finished 6th:
NOTE:Sunday's 6th-place finish was Raines' first career top-10 finish.
YOU HAVE TO BE FEELING PRETTY GOOD ABOUT THE WEEKEND:
"It was an awesome team effort. We didn't run well here in the spring and we came back and practice pretty good, qualified even better. I tried to give it away. The car was real tight at the start of the race. We fell back a little bit and on the first pit stop, I drove right by the stall. I'm not used to having that good a pit stall, I guess. That put us behind. I knuckled down and we got busy after that and we made the car better and better. We had a pretty decent car. All in all, it was a good weekend."
WHAT DOES THIS DO FOR YOUR PROSPECTS FOR 2004 WITH THIS TEAM OR ANOTHER ONE?
"I would hope that it's good across the board. I'd like it to be with this team. We ran a white car all year and hopefully we can do some convincing for a sponsorship to jump on this car. I would hope I would have already proven I could be a good driver, otherwise I wouldn't be in this series. I think we're trying to prove that BACE Motorsports is a good team and having weekends like this will impress that upon more people."
YOU'VE PROVEN YOUR WORTH WITH A STRUGGLING TEAM. HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY OTHER OFFERS?
"I haven't had any offers in cash or on paper, so I would say no. The racing industry is a funny sport, because when you're up, they want to talk to you. When you're down, you can't even bum a cigarette. That's the way the sport is. So the fact that we're running better and running well, I take a lot of pride in that from the team side because I'm just a part of the organization. I can't do it by myself. We have some good guys on the team and hopefully they feel that way about the fact that my name is in the rumor mill. Sometimes it's a distraction and sometimes it's not. Maybe this particular case it's boosting my stock value, I don't know. Maybe I'll get a raise out of Bill [laughter]. I like racing and I'm enjoying this. To do more with less is what we've been doing all year, and hopefully we can get more sponsorship and ramp up our program."
