CHARLOTTE, N.C., (Feb. 21, 2001) - Kenny Wallace, driver of the Eel River Racing Pontiac, ran at a steady pace for most of the Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway before getting tangled up in a backstretch wreck that collected 19 race cars and resulted in a 25th place finish.

"We'd been running competitive all day near the front and I was pretty happy about that," said Wallace. "I've been pretty lucky for a long time on these speedways and have made it through the big wrecks. Unfortunately this time I had no where to go. There were cars flipping right in front of me. This was a good race for us. We finished 25th and that's not too bad for us. Now we're ready to head to Rockingham."

Kenny Wallace, driver of the No. 27 Eel River Racing Pontiac, is a racer at heart and he knows what needs to be done going into Sunday's Dura-Lube 400 at North Carolina Speedway.=20

"Obviously it's going to be a lot different for all of us going to Rockingham without Dale," said Wallace. "But we're going to do what he would want us to do and that's to go there and race hard."

Wallace has had his share of ups and downs on the 1.017-mile oval over the past few years. He's found the key to qualifying but is still working on the combination for the 393 laps of competitive racing.

"Rockingham has always been a good track for me when it comes to qualifying," Wallace continued. "We went there to test during the off-season and I thought we had a good test. I'm looking forward to getting the second race of the season started off right."
