CASEY MEARS (No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid)
"We're happy with that. It's the quickest lap we've run since we've been here. We picked up about four tenths from practice. We really didn't get a good read on the car or get a good run in in practice, considering all that I'm pretty happy where we are with the Target Dodge."
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid)
"The car felt really good the first lap. We were a little loose on the second lap. It felt like it might need a little more gear. We kept adjusting on the car and got a little better as the day went along."
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid)
"We never made a qualifying lap in practice. All we did was race runs. The guys worked hard and put the qualifying stuff in it, and it really worked good. I've never been that good here qualifying at Rockingham, so that was real good for me. If we don't get any practice tomorrow, we're ready to race. I'm tickled to death about qualifying. We threw something at it and it worked for us. We're really excited about it."
BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid)
"We gained on it a lot. I'm very pleased. We weren't that good in practice, but the guys did a lot to help the car. We were in qualifying setup. I really don't believe anybody went out there in race setup. We've got a good starting spot, so hopefully we'll get a chance to work on it in practice a little more Saturday if it doesn't rain."
JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid)
"We thought we could have been faster than that. We tightened it up a little bit. It was loose in practice, but it got real loose in qualifying. We've got a good car, and I feel good about the race. I think we'll be ready to go Sunday even if we don't get any practice Saturday."
KEN SCHRADER (No. 49 BAM Racing Dodge Intrepid)
"Well, it turned. It really turned. We were just loose. We worked on getting it to turn in practice, no problem there. Now we just need to get the rear end to catch up with the front."
JAMIE McMURRAY (No. 42 Havoline Dodge Intrepid)
NOTE: McMurray will start 10th and is the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender for the second straight race.
"It wasn't bad. It was a little loose off. I think we'll have a great car for the race. If it hadn't got so loose off turn four, I might be where Dave Blaney is now (pole). We came and tested here last year when I was driving the 40 car and then also tested here a few weeks ago. We've qualified so well here the last two times. I guess it's just a good shock package. We're pretty much back with what Sterling's run here the last couple of years. I'm pretty happy with that."
RYAN NEWMAN (No. 12 ALLTEL Dodge Intrepid)
"The fuel line fell off the carburetor. Somebody missed something. It was laying on the intake manifold. It's frustrating. I think we had a real good shot at the pole."
RUSTY WALLACE (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Intrepid)
"We did three qualifying laps. When I was done, I knew I was too loose. We decided to change it over and get 15 or 20 minutes of race practice. We did that and it worked out good for me. We qualified good just then and we've got a car that we've run 20 minutes on in race practice. We've got a good idea of what it's going to need for racing. If we get rained out Saturday like they're talking about, I'm feeling real good about things right now. Maybe we can get win No. 55 in start No. 600."
