RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY SETS FINAL WINSTON CUP & BUSCH TEST DATES
RICHMOND, VA - Richmond International Raceway has bookd final Winston Cup and Busch Series Grand National test dates prior to the September 7, Fas Mart SuperTruck Shootout, September 8, Autolite Platinum 250, and September 9, Miller Genuine Draft 400.
Admission to the test sessions is free to the public. Grandstands will open at 9:00 AM through the duration of the testing. Richmond International Raceway's ticket office will open at 8:30 AM for those wanting to purchase general admission tickets for the Fas Mart SuperTruck Shootout and Autolite Platinum 250 events.
Thursday August 31 is the final day Winston Cup and Grand National Series cars will be allowed on the Richmond racing surface prior to RIR's three nights under the lights NASCAR extraganza in September.
From August 28-30, several Winston Cup plan to test on "The Action Track". In the Ford camp, Mike Wallace will be testing the Heilig-Meyers Thunderbird with stablemates Rusty Wallace in the Miller Genuine Draft #2, and Ricky Rudd in the Tide #10.
From the Chevrolet bowtie club, only one driver is expected to spend all three days on Richmond's "D"-shaped, 3/4-mile oval. 7-time Winston Cup Champion, Dale Earnhardt is the driver. He'll be testing Richard Childress's GM Goodwrench #3 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
The Pontiac division has one lone ranger testing as well. Bahari Racing's Michael Waltrip will shake down the #30 Pennzoil Pontiac.
On August 31, two-time RIR NASCAR Sportsman race winner Dennis Setzer will test his Busch car. Other GN drivers include: Mike Harmon, David Bonnett, Doug Reid, and local talent Eddie Johnson.
