Robby Gordon ...
#13 Menards/Duracell Ford Taurus
Qualifying position - 36th
Time - 22.079 seconds
Robby Gordon had a dramatic turnaround from Friday's late practice to qualifying, where he erased a frustrating session-best time of 22.713 seconds by posting a lap of 22.079 seconds when it counted. Robby drew the 15th position in qualifying which was unfortunate, as the drivers in the last half took advantage of a much cooler and faster track.
On Saturday, Gordon elected not to re-qualify and stand on his time. Only four cars attempted second day qualifying runs and none of them improved their times.
ROBBY GORDON "We had a good lap Friday. In the end we're 36th here, but the track definitely got faster as it cooled off and that hurt us position-wise. Our lap was by far the best all day for us and it felt good in the seat, maybe in the cooler air it could've been faster. From the last practice to qualifying we changed the camber and that was really it. The car was a little bit tight in the middle of the corner but there was no looseness coming off. I just hammered the gas and it went without a twitch. Beyond that I pushed it as hard as I could and tried to drive it as deep as I possibly could.
"Looking back on the history here at Richmond, we noticed that very rarely do cars get faster in second day qualifying, so we decided to stand pat. Had someone bumped us, we still had a provisional to fall back on, but what we really wanted to do was work on race setups. I like this track. The more I get comfortable here, the more fun I have. It's a little bit bigger than places like Bristol and Martinsville so you can breathe a tad. I think the racing will be great."
