RICHMOND, VA 4/7/04-- The spring NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway has been renamed the Chevy American Revolution 400, track officials announced today. A new logo has also been created in time for the sold out event that will be held "under the lights" on Saturday, May 15.

The new race name mirrors the company's well-received campaign that highlights an "American Revolution" in the car industry. The original race name was the Pontiac Performance 400, but since General Motors decided to focus all of its NASCAR resources on Chevrolet staring last fall, the decision was made to rename the race.

General Motors had sponsored the spring NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race through its Pontiac brand since 1988, the second longest sponsorship streak in the series. "We are proud to have such a terrific, committed and long-time partner like our friends at General Motors," said track president Doug Fritz. "The Chevy brand is synonymous with success throughout the long history of NASCAR and Richmond International Raceway."

General Motors will also continue to sponsor the track's fall NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Saturday, September 11. That race, which will also be held "under the lights," will again be known as the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 and will feature free concerts, special paint schemes and appearances by Warner Music Group artists. The lineup of musical acts and drivers who will carry special paint schemes featuring Warner Music Group artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 will also be the final race before the field is set in the "Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Championship."

The Chevy American Revolution 400 is already sold out and what few tickets that will be available for the first day of public sale for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 are expected to sell out within hours of the on-sale date.

Fans who wish purchase tickets to the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 can visit the track's website www.rir.com and sign up for the free "Members Only" section to gain access to ticket sales three days prior to the regular sale date, set for Saturday, July 17.

For more information on those or any other races at Richmond International Raceway, fans can call the ticket office at 1-866-455-RACE (7223).
