"We didn't test the new pavement, but we feel confident about our set up going into the race based on information we have learned and the way we left Richmond last fall. We had a very competitive car last September. We went to Kentucky on Wednesday and we hope the results of our test in Kentucky will show up in our performance over the next few weeks. We are trying to learn and get better everyday."

Michael Waltrip will compete in his 37th NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) on Saturday night where he will look for his first top-10 run at the .75-mile oval in Richmond, Va. RIR has new pavement for the first time since 1988 which could mean record-breaking speeds for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup cars.

This Week's Race Car (Chassis #23) was last run in Martinsville last season as well as at RIR last September. The roof is the only part of the body that was left untouched. The rest of the car was cut off and rebuilt.

Look at the Numbers
1 - RIR is first race of the year to run at night.
138 - Number of points out of the top-20
580 - Number of career Cup starts for Waltrip
3 - Consecutive seasons Waltrip has won a Cup race
955 - Number of laps Waltrip has led in his career
33 - Career top-fives for Waltrip

Last Year in This Race Michael Waltrip started from the 37th place position. After electing to stay out during several ensuing cautions, Waltrip gradually climbed into the top 15. The team showed its strength despite a poor qualifying effort, and proved beyond doubt their ability to be a contender. Following the final caution of the evening, in the midst of clearing the track of debris, the rain came in heavier and NASCAR elected to call the event, seven laps short of its intended finish. Waltrip finished 12th.

Championship Points Michael Waltrip currently holds the 30th position in the point's chase where he is 106 points out of the top-25.
