NEMECHEK FINISHES 18TH IN RICHMOND

RICHMOND, Va. (May 14, 2005) -- Joe Nemechek posted an 18th-place finish in Saturday night's Chevy American Revolution 400 here at Richmond International Raceway.

"We just couldn't mount a charge," said Nemechek. "The U.S. Army Chevy would run decent for a while then it would fall off. We just didn't hit on the setup."

Nemechek started the race from the 25th position and it wasn't until the end of the 400-lap Nextel Cup event that his 01 Chevrolet was at its best on the .75-mile oval.

"We made a shock adjustment and that seemed to help," said Nemechek. "The car was better at the end, but it still wasn't where it needed to be."

Nemechek said he was disappointed with the result because he went into the race pumped after talking with soldiers and future soldiers during prerace activities in the garage area.

"Nothing inspires me more than talking to our soldiers who are out there fighting for our country and protecting our freedom," said Nemechek. "I had a great time meeting with all of the Army personnel today and only wish we could have given them a better performance. But we fought to the end and we'll keep on digging."

The next event for the Army team will be the Nextel All-Star Challenge Saturday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte. The next points race will also be contested at Lowe's -- the May 29th Coca-Cola 600.
