DALE EARNHARDT JR. LOOKING FOR ELUSIVE WIN IN RETURN TO RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
Last Points-Paying Victory Came at Richmond in 2006
Richmond, VA (April 28, 2008)--With Dale Earnhardt Jr. returning to the site of his last points race win, could there be another victory on the horizon at Richmond International Raceway for NASCAR's most popular driver? When Earnhardt Jr. takes to America's Premier Short Track for the first time in his No. 88 National Guard/AMP Energy Chevrolet, he will be searching for his first checkered flag since winning the inaugural Crown Royal 400 on May 6, 2006. Tickets are still available to this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race--the Saturday, May 3, Crown Royal Presents The Dan Lowry 400, a race in which Earnhardt Jr. has his sights set.
Earnhardt Jr. has been suffering through a bit of a victory drought since he won in 2006 and subsequently dazzled the crowd with one of the most memorable burnouts the fans in Richmond have seen. There have been 71 points races since his last win, although he did win one of the Gatorade Duel races this season, which does not award points.
"Richmond International Raceway is a really special place because I have had a lot of success here," said Earnhardt Jr. "The racing is always incredible because we can run side-by-side, two- or three-wide. It's definitely one of the best tracks on the circuit and we always look forward to coming back to Richmond."
What better place to rekindle the magic than at Richmond International Raceway? Earnhardt Jr. has three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins and three NASCAR Nationwide Series wins at America's Premier Short Track, dating back to 1998. And with a resurgence this season after joining Hendrick Motorsports (currently third in points; three top-five and seven top-10 finishes), it's only a matter of time until Earnhardt Jr. finishes first for a change.
Fans who want to see if Dale Earnhardt Jr. can break his winless streak can do so by purchasing tickets to the Crown Royal Presents The Dan Lowry 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, scheduled for Saturday, May 3, "under the lights" at Richmond International Raceway. Tickets start at $80 and are available by logging onto www.rir.com or calling 866-455-7223.
