RICHMOND, Va. (September 6, 2003) --- Sterling Marlin and the Coors Light team were ready to rock and roll Saturday night when the green flag dropped for the Chevy Rock and Roll 400. After starting the race at Richmond International Raceway in the sixth position Marlin and the Coors Light Dodge fell back after sustaining damage in a caution on lap 120.
"We finally qualify well and we can't finish it," Marlin said. "I just can't catch a break these days. We need to work on keeping constant the whole weekend. We'll be able to put something together soon - I know it."
Marlin started the race in the sixth position and when the first caution came out on lap 23, Marlin was reporting that the car was loose. The Coors Light crew opted to stay out on the track to keep track position and Marlin and the Coors Light Dodge continued to run up in the front. On lap 120, Marlin was caught in an accident and the Coors Light Dodge sustained damage to the front bumper. Marlin brought the car in and the Coors Light crew worked on the damage to the right front during two pit stops. When the race restarted six laps later, the Coors Light Dodge was back to the 25th position.
Marlin and the Coors Light team worked hard to recover from the accident and ended the race in the 22nd position. Marlin dropped one position to 17th in the Winston Cup championship points. Ganassi teammates Jamie McMurray and Casey Mears finished 19th and 41st respectively.
The Coors Light team races at New Hampshire International Speedway next weekend. The race will be broadcast live on NBC television and MRN radio on Monday, September 6th.
