HOW WAS YOUR LAP?

"It was a pretty good lap obviously. I'm pretty happy with the car. I got in the wall there in practice and that slowed us up. They had to do a little repair on the car, but I don't think that affected us in our qualifying run at all. All in all, it was a pretty good run for the ALLTEL Ford."

YOU'RE QUALIFYING CONSISTENTLY.

"Definitely. This will be my second Winston Cup start here and being on the outside front row is a big achievement. I wish we could have got the pole, but that gives us a good starting position for Saturday night's race and that's always important too."

THE GOAL IS TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP AND WIN?

"Yeah, we always want to but it's tough. Nobody gives it to you and we're just trying to earn it."

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD?

"It's as important as the rookie of the rookie of the year award is to everybody. I mean, it's something we all want to win when we have the opportunity and you only have the opportunity once in Winston Cup, so we're just doing the best we can. You don't race because you're going for the rookie of the year award, you race because you want to race and do the best you can. However the points wind up is how they end up."

JIMMIE JUST EDGED YOU.

"Yeah, it's just one of those things. You try as hard as you can and do the best you can and you get the lap you get. If somebody else does a better job, then you go on to the next event and see what you can do. So we'll see how we do in race trim."

YOU HAD A WILD RIDE THIS MORNING.

"Yes and no. We didn't have much to recover from, but the guys did a good job in doing it. It's just one of those things where you get in the wall, you fix it and you go on."
