Richmond II: Ford drivers race quotes

TODD BODINE, No. 54 National Guard Taurus (finished 42nd) "Somebody spun out back there, got turned or whatever. I saw it, my spotter saw it, Jason Leffler, his spotter didn't see it and Jason got in the back of me. You know, you're racing at...

TODD BODINE, No. 54 National Guard Taurus (finished 42nd)

"Somebody spun out back there, got turned or whatever. I saw it, my spotter saw it, Jason Leffler, his spotter didn't see it and Jason got in the back of me. You know, you're racing at the back, you figure you're not going to get run over, and we got run over anyway. But, the National Guard Ford was running good, running real good. I got in the wall off of four that one time, running about eighth. We were still doing all right. Had to come in and fix the front end. Got in the back. Had a good race car, still got bad luck."

ELLIOTT SADLER, No. 38 M&M's Taurus (finished 39th)

"We got wrecked early in the race and just tried to patch it up, and just something let go. Actually, spun out on the straightaway. I just want to commend everybody at Richmond International Raceway for the soft walls, because that was a very hard hit and I'm in good shape. I know I tore the car up, but I just want to apologize to everybody at M&M's and Ford. It was just one of those nights. Can't help when people run in the back of us. We'll take it on to New Hampshire and see what happens."

JEFF BURTON, No. 99 Citgo Taurus (finished 4th)

"We ran real good at times, we weren't good on long runs. Our strength was short runs. We struggled really bad on long runs, but we were really, really fast on short runs. We just have to find a happy medium. Fortunately, we got a bunch of cautions at the end and that played into our favor. I got into Robby Gordon, I wrecked him, I didn't mean to, but I did, and I'm sure he's upset and he ought to be upset. I got in there and I got loose and went straight down the track and I got into him. I don't think he's as mad as Harvick about it, and Rudd, but I'm sure he's a little upset, and I don't blame him, I'd be upset, too. He ought to be upset. I don't race like that, and I did get into him and it was my fault. That's all I can say."

YOUR CAR SEEMED TO BE GOOD ALL NIGHT... "We were fast, but, like I said, we just weren't good on long runs. We were really good on short runs. That was our strength. We just couldn't go on long runs. We kind of knew that going into the race that we could possible struggle on long runs."

MARK MARTIN, No. 6 Viagra Taurus (finished 13th)

"We didn't run as good as we should, but we did a great job with the car, the team and everything, to bring it home in 13th. It was a reasonable finish, but we need to run better than that."

MATT KENSETH, No. 17 Smirnoff Ice Triple Black Taurus (finished 7th)

"We didn't have the night we wanted. We were way off in the beginning and I spun out there, and the guys did a good job. We got back on sequence with the leaders. At times, we had a real good car, just the last set of tires and last adjustment we made just didn't agree with the car. We were just barely tight and put on the last set of tires, and I was just way, way too loose. We were two-tenths slower than we were the runs before. So, we had our worst set last, and that isn't what you wan to do, but overall it was a good day's work."

ON THOSE CHASING HIM IN THE POINTS RACE. "You never like to see anybody else's misfortune, but I definitely feel better with the lead we have now than what we had when we came in. The 29's been awful, awful strong and has had a lot of momentum, and he kind of broke that momentum tonight. I feel good about that, but we still quite didn't have the day we wanted to, we still really want to get our car back to victory lane, but overall it was decent for us."

ON THE 42 WRECK IN FRONT OF HIM. "I don't know what happened, there was a wreck there and he spun and was blocking the straightaway, so I just basically stopped and tried to get around him. So, we dodged a bullet. We were really lucky. You know, I hit the wall off of four and checked up and got turned around, but it was my fault. I hit the wall. Didn't look good at the beginning of the race, but Robbie made some great calls and got us some good track position and we stayed out when we needed to stay in sync with the leaders. I could run with the leaders if I was up there with them, but if I was behind I couldn't run. So, it's not as good of a car as we're used to having here, but it was decent at times."

DO YOU FEEL DESTINED TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP NOW. EVEN WITH A BAD NIGHT YOU DO WELL. "We've been pretty lucky. We've done a good job of preparing our cars and we've been good enough not to be in not so many wrecks. But we have been lucky. We haven't had a, knock on wood, parts failures or flat tires or any of the unlucky stuff that we had go wrong last year. So, it feels good to be this lucky, but we still want to run a little better and get back to victory lane and put an exclamation point on it, because some of these guys are still running pretty good and still got a shot at catching us, but I definitely fell good where we're at."

FOR MOST OF THE RACE TONIGHT, YOU WERE LOOKING AHEAD AT THREE OF THE DRIVERS CHASING YOU. "Yeah. We were no good in the beginning. I just tried not to panic and get ourselves back in sequence with the leaders. If we could get up with the leaders, we were okay; I thought we had a top-five car when we had it running right. We just didn't have it right at the end of the race. So, I thought we had a better car than what we finished, but it was decent for us."

TEN RACES TO GO. "Yeah, we'll just stay after it. To me it's still too early to count races. I'll sleep a little bit better than I did last week, but I still won't sleep totally sound yet."
