TODD BODINE, No. 54 National Guard Taurus
"We're pretty happy with it. The car was exactly the same way in practice as it was in qualifying. It was just a little tight through the middle, which takes away from corner speed. That was better than practice and that's what you have to do, pick it up for qualifying."
KURT BUSCH, No. 97 Rubbermaid Taurus
We ran a 21.8 when we unloaded, we ran a 21.8 as we ran, and 21.8 again; imagine that. It just seems like we're stuck at a 21.8, and we can't get any better."
RICKY RUDD, No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus
HAVE THE TRACK CONDITIONS CHANGED FROM PRACTICE? "We just don't seem to have the grip we had in practice. We ran quicker in practice and we're sliding around quite a bit. We'll have to wait and see how this draw goes. I think it's a disadvantage to go early, but we'll wait and see how it works out. Right now the track is not as good as it was in practice, just a little it off. We'll have to see if somebody can crank out a pole-sitting lap in the next couple of laps and then I'll feel better about it."
YOU'RE SET TO MAKE YOUR 50TH CAREER START AT RIR THIS WEEKEND. HOW SPECIAL IS THIS TRACK TO YOU? "It's the closest thing that I have to being a home track. I grew up 100 miles away. A lot of friends and family come here to watch us race, and there's always a lot of extra pressure to do well. We've been able to have some good runs at Richmond and the fans have treated us real well. We enjoy racing here."
JEFF BURTON, No. 99 Citgo Taurus
"I don't think that's going to be all that good. We just didn't have near the grip that we had in practice, which maybe everybody will lose it. But, my car didn't drive anything near as well as it did in practice. We lost a lot of time off of turn two and in the middle of three. It will be decent, but it won't be as could as I thought it could be."
IS THE TRACK SLICKER THAN IT WAS IN MAY? "I found it a lot slicker. The track will only get better, and going out in the first part of the group isn't going to be good for you, but it is what it is and we draw out of hat just like everybody does, and sometimes you get a good draw and sometimes you don't."
DAVE BLANEY - No. 77 Jasper Engines & Transmissions Taurus
HAVE THE TRACK CONDITIONS CHANGED DRASTICALLY SINCE PRACTICE? "I don't have a clue. Everybody is slower, but we went from being good in practice to just dead loose; I couldn't even drive it. I don't know what happened."
MATT KENSETH, No. 17 Smirnoff Ice Triple Black Taurus
"It wasn't very good. I ran better than that in practice, and I don't think I got a very good lap. I probably was just too careful not to overdrive the corner and didn't go fast enough. I probably didn't do a very good job. That will hopefully get us at least 20th, but that wasn't a very good job by me."
GREG BIFFLE, No. 16 Grainger Taurus
YOU BACKED UP WHAT YOU RAN THIS MORNING. ARE YOU SATISFIED? "No, not really. The Grainger Ford was a lot better than that. I got a little sideways coming off of two and I left a lot on the table down there in three and four. Those guys, the 20 car and some of those other guys will probably definitely beat us, but still a top-five starting spot. I guess we're still on the pole at this point, but I don't expect it to hold up, but I expect it to hold up for a top-five or a top-seven starting spot. These guys are working really hard to give me a good car. We got some information off of Jeff Burton. He helped us and that's what teammates are for. We scanned him and the 17 and we got some information for our run."
WHAT ARE THE GAINS THAT THIS TEAM HAS MADE IN RECENT WEEKS? "We really are. Last week, by far, I thought we had that race won, and unfortunately the flywheel broke and things that are happening to this team right now that hopefully we've got fixed. I told the guys last week after the race, I think we can definitely win a couple of races this season. We've got the equipment, we've got the team to do it; we've just got to be focused. Our qualifying run here will set us up for that Saturday night."
ELLIOTT SADLER, No. 38 M&M's Taurus
"We did a lot of race stuff; I think we're going to be okay in race trim. But, we were really bad in qualifying trim all day long, so we knew we were going to be starting somewhere in the back. Hopefully, that's not a provisional. It's going to be close, but we'll see."
MARK MARTIN, No. 6 Viagra Taurus
"We caught a good lap, is what we did. The Viagra team's done a great job. They really deserved to run better than we've run lately. I don't know if we're running good or not, but we sure got a good qualifying lap, and I want to give all the credit to them."
THE ROUSH TEAMS HAVE RUN WELL TODAY. "We're all running well. We know what everybody's got, but we're doing our own thing. We're a little bit different than those guys, quite a bit different, to be honest with you, but we ran well here the last few times, even though we qualified terrible last time here, we ran well. We're doing our own thing. Just everybody's running good right now at Roush Racing."
