Carl Edwards on racing at Richmond International Raceway: "Everything is riding on this Richmond race right now. Last weekend showed me that anything can happen. We aren't guaranteed a spot in the Chase. We are going to Richmond to run as well as we can and we are going to race hard. It should be an exciting race and hopefully at the end of the night we are getting pictures taken for the right reasons and we are in the Chase."
Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Richmond International Raceway: "We were hoping to be locked into the Chase at this point, but our finish in Atlanta didn't help us out with that. Carl's foot was never an issue, but a hole in the oil cooler from debris put us in the garage while we changed the radiator. We are still fifth, but our lead over 12th isn't as big as we would like it to be. Our strategy at Richmond will shift a bit this weekend. We always want to win races, but this week we won't take any risks for a win. We will run the best we can and see what happens when the checkered flag drops. We need to focus on the bigger picture this weekend, which is making The Chase."
*Carl Edwards will make his 11th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Richmond International Raceway this weekend in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400.
*FOR THE RECORD... Edwards has just three top-10 finishes at Richmond. He has led 15 laps and completed 94.5% of the laps he has attempted at the 3/4-mile D-shaped oval.
Richmond is third best on Edwards' list for average starting position at 12.6, however ties Daytona as Edwards' third worst average finish at 19.
*REWIND SEPTEMBER 2008... Edwards battled adversity to bring home a 13th-place finish at Richmond International Raceway during the rain-postponed race in September 2008. Edwards had one of the fastest cars on the racetrack, but a cut tire and late-race incident mired the driver back in traffic and thwarted a top-10 finish.
*ON THE TRACK... The No. 99 team will be bringing chassis RK-587 to Richmond this weekend. This chassis raced at Martinsville in March, where Edwards looked to be on his way to a top-five finish before cutting a tire and ultimately finishing two laps down. The Aflac team is bringing it to Richmond with a different configuration.
*STANDINGS... Currently fifth in points, Edwards needs to finish 24th or better in order to guarantee his position in the Chase, regardless of how others perform. He can finish 25th if he leads one lap, or 27th if he leads the most laps.
