Allmendinger Earns Eighth at Richmond
Third on the grid and strong all day long as AJ brings Ford top finish Saturday
12 September 2010 (Charlotte, NC)-- AJ Allmendinger had another strong weekend of NASCAR Sprint Cup race action at Richmond International Raceway as the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season enters a final stretch of races in the 2010 season.
AJ kicked the weekend off with a strong run in qualifying on Friday, pushing the No. 43 Insignia HDTV/Best Buy Ford Fusion to third on the 43 car grid and running in top five position for most of the 400 lap distance. Good speed and solid stops from the Richard Petty Motorsports crew all night long saw the Insignia-green Ford a regular feature up front.
But a run to the 'podium' wasn't in the cards as the last set of runs saw the No. 43 struggle for grip compared to the leader, but AJ held on to bring home another top-ten finish with his run to eighth.
"I'm happy overall with our performance all day," said AJ. "The car was good most of night, but we just struggled at end with rear grip and that cost us at the end a little bit. But this was by far best car I've ever had here so I enjoyed it a lot more! When you have such a good car, you want to make the most of it so I'm kind of disappointed not to get a top five out of the night. But I guess it's a pretty good thing when you can start being frustrated by not having that top-10 or top-5 finish like the last two weeks. I think that shows where we've come as a team and hopefully we can use the end of this year to keep improving to be ready to perform like this all year long in 2011."
Next weekend will be New Hampshire, where AJ scored 10th in June.
