Kevin Harvick Back on Top of Point Standings With Third-Place Finish at Richmond; Six Team Chevy Drivers Score Top-10 Finishes

Richmond - May 1, 2010 - Kevin Harvick, No. 29 Reese's Chevrolet, now sits atop the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings with a third place finish tonight at Richmond International Raceway. He led once for one lap and now holds a 10-point lead with 10 races in the books of the 2010 season.

Jeff Gordon, No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, finished second after leading three times for 144 of the 400-lap race. The four-time champion moved up four spots in the points to sixth position.

Jeff Burton brought the Caterpillar Chevrolet to the checkered flag in fourth place. He sits ninth in the standings, up three places. Burton led once for 20 laps.

Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 42 Target Chevrolet, finished sixth to move up two points position to 18th place.

Ryan Newman, No. 39 US Army Mobile Chevrolet, finished eighth leading once for four laps. He moved up two positions in points to the 16th position.

Four-time defending NSCS champion Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet, finished 10th to drop to second in the standings.

Mark Martin, No. 5 Chevrolet dropped four positions in the standings to 10th after battling handling issues from contact on pit road that relegated him to the 25th finishing position.

Clint Bowyer, No. 33 BB&T Chevrolet, finished 12th and rides 12th in the standings.



"Well it was a heck of a night for us. Kyle (Busch) was just the class of the field there early and I don't know what happened to him, he started falling backwards. We had some issues at that same time. We were able to maintain and then get the lead from Burton and then pulled. I knew I didn't want to see cautions. Our car was not really very good on restarts, but, we were able to get a couple of good ones. (Jeff) Burton and (Kevin) Harvick were racing one another and we pulled away. I said please no cautions and sure enough, the caution came out. Kyle was really good on restarts and his car was really strong tonight on restarts. You didn't want to have to race him on a shootout like that. We came out second. I had a great race with Harvick all the guys really all night. Great run for the DuPont Chevrolet. A little disappointed again that we are coming up short but we are getting plenty of practice at this green-white-checkered and these shootouts at the end. Hopefully when it counts later in the season, we'll make it count."

WAS THE DIFFERENCE ON THE RESTART MORE ABOUT LANE CHOICE OR TIRES? "It was the No. 18 (Kyle Busch, winner). He was so strong on restarts all night. I don't know what happened to him on that one run where he fell back, but he was head and shoulders above everybody on restarts. And we were good on the long runs, you know? We got a couple of decent restarts there, and (Jeff) Burton and (Kevin) Harvick got to racing one another and allowed us to get out there and get some clean air, but that last restart, I got a good one, but Kyle (Busch) got a good one as well and I was just too loose to really get going. He drove a heck of a race, so we'll have to settle for second. It was a great, great effort, again, by the DuPont Chevrolet. We're going to have to figure out how to win these ones in these late cautions. It's not where we're strong right now. But it's something we'll continue to get better on as the season goes on. We're certainly getting plenty of practice at it."



"I think that the couple of extra laps had fresh on his tires just allowed him to maneuver around the outside than our Reese's Chevrolet could or (Jeff) Gordon or (Jeff) Burton). Good day for the Reese's Chevrolet. Just glad to run good when the car was orange. We had a chance. I felt like we a little better than the No. 24 there at the end, just couldn't quite clear him. But all-in-all it was a decent day."

AFTER 10 RACES, YOU ARE THE POINTS LEADER: "All right! Only 25 to go."

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THAT FINAL RUN TO THE FINISH? "Oh, the No. 18 (Kyle Busch) was really good on the restarts and my car; it looked like Jeff Gordon's car was the same way; just a little bit too free. I'm proud of all the Reese's Chevrolet guys. Reese's has been with us for a long time and I get their one race here this year. I'm just glad that we ran really well for them. It's fun to been racing for wins. That's what we're here to do and we've done that several times this year and after winning last week and being close this week, we've led the points at the end of 10 weeks now so there is no reason we can't make it after the last ten."



"We have been really happy with the way our cars have run this year. We've been in position to win a lot of races and led a lot of races and haven't found a way to do it. But, tonight was kind of like that. Kyle (Busch) was able to make something happen on the outside that I couldn't make happen. We were good, but we weren't quite good enough to get it done. Real proud of everybody and we'll keep working."

A TOP-FIVE FINISH IN YOUR HOME STATE. TELL US ABOUT YOUR EVENING OVERALL "Well, we wanted what the No. 18 (Kyle Busch) got, but we needed what we got. We've been running really well and we just haven't been knocking finishes off. This is what we needed tonight to try to get some momentum going and laying some advantages down. We were a little conservative there at the end because of the way things have been going. We needed to not turn a good finish into a 25th or something. So we were a little more conservative than I wanted to be, but I still don't think we had anything for the No. 24 (Gordon). The No. 18 made something happen there that I couldn't make happen. I'm really proud of everybody on the team and real happy for all of our sponsors who have stuck with us through tough times and good and bad and I really appreciate it."

IS THIS THE KIND OF NIGHT THAT YOU TALKED ABOUT WHERE YOU NEEDED BIG PICTURE RACING TO KNOCK OFF A TOP-FIVE? "That's one of the things I've done a good job of in my career is getting finishes and not making mistakes. This year I've looked like a rookie on a lot of occasions and have been really disappointed in myself on a few occasions. Again, I wanted to be more aggressive at the end but we just couldn't afford to right now."



"It was a great night. The Target Chevy was amazing. I don't know, I think we had a top-five finish. We ran top-five most of the day. The team did an amazing job. We had a great car. I have said it before, this is a horrible track for me. To finish where we finished is good for points and we have to keep it up."



"It was a good points night. It was disappointing and frustrating because I think we had a car that was better than 8th from a speed standpoint especially on the long runs. But the US Army Medicine Chevrolet didn't get it done tonight and that is why it is frustrating. But I guess when you are frustrated with a top-10, we expect more and that means we are capable of more. We'll see if we can do that next time."



DO YOU LEAVE HERE FRUSTRATED OR GLAD TO HAVE A TOP-10? "I guess a little bit of both to be honest with you. Tough night to earn points tonight where we had competitive speed, not dominant speed where we could run with leaders. There at the end, we had guys on tires and I wasn't on tires and we were just fighting really hard for that spot. Clint (Bowyer) got inside of me off of four and I could hear him in the gas and I wasn't going to let off. We touched tires and around we went and luckily, I don't think anyone hit anything hard. Exciting finish for the fans."
