CARL EDWARDS - No. 99 RoundUp Taurus (Qualified 11th)
"Richmond is a place that I have trouble with. It's just one that's really difficult for me, so I'm really proud of that lap. We've got the RoundUp Extended Control paint scheme and I'm pretty excited. It's gonna be a fun race. We unloaded. I always unload here and just struggle, but we kept picking up time in practice and running the Charter Ford over there (in the Busch Series) has helped me a lot. I look forward to the Funai 250 tonight and maybe we'll just get some experience and tomorrow night will be good."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 National Guard/Subway Taurus (Qualified 9th)
IS THIS THE BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE? "Yeah, it is right now. I'm just excited to have the 16 team like I have around me, and Doug, and to have National Guard on the car and all the great sponsors. I'm just having fun. I'm racing. I'm doing what I love. I love driving this race car. It's a lot of fun."
HOW WAS THE LAP? "I'm extremely happy. I had a lot left in the car, but I spun out qualifying the Busch car because I was too loose. This thing is quite a bit different than the Busch car. I just wanted to put down two good solid laps. I knew that Cup qualifying was gonna be really tight, so instead of the normal try pretty hard on your second lap, I gave it a pretty solid first lap and then tried a little bit harder on my second lap. I knew that even if I picked up five-hundreths or a tenth that it was gonna be important on that second one, so that's what I did. I felt like I had a lot more. I drove her in the corner easy, got back to the gas. I probably could have got back to the gas a lot sooner than I did, but that's what I wanted to do."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Genuine Parts Taurus (Qualified 6th)
"That's about what we had run in practice. I was hoping for a little bit more, but you can't complain too much. I thought we had a little bit left because when we ran our bonsai lap in practice, I had two cars pull out in front of me, so I actually thought we had an .80 or a .75 lap in it, but just didn't get it. The car is really good though. Really good."
WILL THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE HERE? "I'm not really sure. You would think that it would. We tested here and it was real hot and came back and it was cool, but we haven't really done that much to adjust the car. The car is pretty much the way it was on a hot day, so, generally you'll see this track get a little greasier, but the good thing is it's gonna be under the lights at night and you can kind of watch things fairly easily."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Qualified 5th)
"I was happy to be able to do that. I've never qualified here at all. I've always been terrible, so to come here and qualify in the top five, I'm very, very happy with that. My guys did a good job. I think we're gonna have a really good car for tomorrow night. I'm pretty excited about the Busch race tonight and maybe we'll go get 'em tomorrow night. We'll see what happens."
WILL THE BUSCH RACE HELP YOU FOR TOMORROW NIGHT? "I think so. We can kind of see what the track is gonna do. The track is getting some age on it, so I think I'll learn a lot tonight to help us for tomorrow night."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 IRWIN/Sharpie Taurus (Qualified 4th)
"This place is really cool to qualify if you're right and we were just right on the pins and needles of just hitting a turn here or a turn there and slipping a tire, but we stuck it pretty good. It was better than last week anyway when we didn't make it past lap one, so I'm looking for a better turnaround. My team really pulled together this week. I want to congratulate them for winning the pit crew competition. Now we've got it in the pits and now if the driver can do it on the track, we'll see if we can win the race tomorrow night."
HOW MUCH EFFORT DID YOU PUT INTO QUALIFYING? "We're starting to understand the impound a bit more now. This track is similar to Phoenix in ways and we qualified second there. I thought we had a shot at the pole, but Kahne ran a ballistic lap and so did Stewart, so to start up front is key here at Richmond and I hope that puts us in a good pit cycle."
WILL WARMER TEMPS TOMORROW CHANGE THINGS? "Not so much. With the way we had to deal with Phoenix weather and practicing in the daytime and then having the rain at night - just all the different climates we see - the tracks change a little bit but our setups now are so adjustable that we can't just set it up for the cool temperatures. We have to set it up for qualifying, for race and for 400 laps."
