SONOMA, Calif. - If you are running late for work on Wednesday, June 21, don't be surprised if you see the STP No. 43 NASCAR in your rearview mirror. The legendary Richard Petty and John Andretti will be putting in a couple of miles before the start of the Save Mart/Kragen 350 at Sears Point Raceway.
Petty and Andretti will be in town on June 21 as the STP No. 43 Celebration Tour makes a stop in San Francisco. Starting at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge at Vista Point, Petty, Andretti and the STP No. 43 car will drive across the bridge, travel along the Embarcadero and pull into Willie Mays Plaza.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the caravan pulling into the plaza at 10:30 a.m. At Willie Mays Plaza, Petty and Andretti will meet and greet guests, answer questions and sign some autographs. Fans are encouraged to meet at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge to give Petty and Andretti a big send-off, and also to attend the gathering at Willie Mays Plaza. Fans, however, will not be permitted to participate in the parade.
Designed to celebrate Richard Petty and his relationship with STP, the tour kicked off with a fan forum event prior to the Daytona 500. Started in 1972, the STP/Richard Petty affiliation is the longest-running sponsorship in motorsports history. Furthermore, the STP No. 43 car, now driven by John Andretti, is one of the most recognizable cars on the NASCAR circuit.
The celebration also includes The STP Performance Payoff, which allows race fans to win a host of prizes. The STP Performance Payoff is an under-the-label game that consumers can play when purchasing the following STP products: Gas Treatment, Super Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner, Fuel Injector & Carburetor Cleaner, Complete Fuel System Cleaner and Oil Treatment.
Besides the 2000 Dodge Viper grand prize, consumers can win one of a million STP Hot Wheels, produced by Mattel. Consumers can collect all three STP Hot Wheels designs, which are the same as the three different paint schemes that the STP No. 43 car will feature throughout the 2000 NASCAR season.
