Roush Racing announced Tuesday that David Ragan will replace Mark Martin as driver of the No. 6 Ford Fusion beginning next season. Ragan currently shares the No. 6 Truck with Mark Martin in the Craftsman Truck Series.
"We are very pleased to have David Ragan going into the No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion next season," said Jack Roush. "David is a driver with outstanding talent and as a result of his actions he is the young man I selected to fill the seat. The No. 6 is obviously a special car to me personally and this organization and we are confident in David's ability to step up and get the job done."
Ragan made his first NASCAR Nextel Cup series start at Dover three weeks ago and is expected to make four more starts in Cup before the close of this season. His first appearance in the No. 6 Roush Ford will be during 2007 Speedweeks.
"This is a tremendous opportunity and I look forward to racing on behalf of AAA's millions of loyal members in 2007. Obviously, I've got big shoes to fill and quite a legacy to follow, but I look forward to the challenge and the next chapter of the No. 6 race team," said Ragan.
Martin announced at Talladega that he would not be retiring as expected but will move from Roush Racing to MB2 Motorsports to drive a Chevrolet part- time; that ride will be shared with Regan Smith.
Ragan has one pole and six top-10 finishes in 15 starts in the Truck Series this year. His next appearance in the Cup series will be in two weeks at Martinsville.
Martin will pilot the No. 6 Ford through the end of the season as he pursues his first career Cup title. He is currently third in points just 10 markers behind leader Jeff Burton.
