David Ragan, driver of the No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion, is sitting solidly in 13th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings with only three races remaining. After narrowly missing the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Ragan's goal was to finish in the runner-up position and he currently holds a 224-point lead over Kasey Kahne for that position. He spoke about going to Texas and maintaining that spot.
IS TEXAS SIMILAR TO ATLANTA AS FAR AS THE TRACK GOES? "Yeah, it's a similar track. For some reason, the cars just feel a lot better there. I don't know if the asphalt is different or if it's the weather, but Texas is another fast race track. It's been good for us in the past and it's a track that if we do what we need to do and don't make any mistakes, that we can find ourselves in Victory Lane."
THE GOAL WAS TO FINISH 13TH AFTER MISSING THE CHASE AND YOU'RE IN THAT SPOT NOW. YOUR THOUGHTS ON YOUR POSITION. "We've done what we need to do in order to get in 13th and we know what we need to do to stay there. We can't have any DNFs. I can't make mistakes on the race track and we can't have engine failures or stuff like that, so we've done a good job to get us in 13th and that's the best we can do. That would be a good thing for us at the end of the year - to be able to sit back and finish 13th because that's the next-best thing to being in the Chase. We just have to go out and have some good races. We don't have a ton of pressure to perform, we've just got to do what we've been doing."
BUT YOU CAN TAKE SOME RISKS AS FAR AS WINNING BECAUSE OF THE CUSHION YOU HAVE IN THE STANDINGS, RIGHT? "Yeah, you can take a few and if you lose a couple points here or there, it's not that big of a deal. You just can't have any bad races where you lose 100 points or something like that, but that's what we've got to do is to take a few chances here and there and try to keep getting better and smarter as a race team."
