Concord, NC -- Rain has once again halted plans for the Winston Cup Series, as the start time of today's 500-mile event at the Lowe's Motor Speedway of 12:30, will clearly be pushed back a few hours.

Rain began as a downpour early this morning and once the rain stopped, track drying efforts began. Unfortunately, light sprinkles dampened the efforts. The rain has now slowed to a light drizzle at times and walking through the garage area, only an occasional drop falls. But one drop is one too many as skies remain overcast.

The rain is expected to pass through the area by 3 p.m. NASCAR officials have said they are "100% confident" that the race will be run in its entirety this afternoon. Lowe's is one of the few tracks on the NASCAR circuit that has lights.

UPDATE: 3:45 pm EDT

After a weekend full of on again off again rain, the drivers of the Winston Cup Series are now racing at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The race began shortly before 4 p.m. The original start-time was set for 12:30.

The green flag flew, as did the yellow at roughly 3:47 p.m. The upper groove of the track continued to hold a small amount of moisture, so NASCAR officials left the cars running and on track to help dry the damp surface.
