Procter & Gamble confirmed today that it will not renew its contract with Rudd Performance Motorsports (RPM) at the close of the 1999 racing season. P&G had made a proposal to Ricky Rudd to remain as driver of its Tide car for the 2000 season. However, Rudd decided this arrangement doesn't meet his future objectives. He will continue as driver/owner of the # 10 Tide Ford Taurus for the remainder of the 1999 season.

"This is a bitter sweet moment for us." said Patricia DiMichele, Tide Brand Manager. "Ricky was an excellent driver and spokesperson for Tide. We certainly wish Ricky the best in the future."

P&G also confirmed that it is negotiating with Precision Preparation, Inc (PPI) for a future NASCAR sponsorship arrangement, including a new driver for the Tide car. P&G plans to announce its new driver within the next couple of months.
