HICKORY, N.C. (May 2, 2000) -- PPI Motorsports and Doug Richert, crew chief for the No. 32 Tide Ford driven by Scott Pruett, have mutually agreed to part ways. Richert has opted to pursue other opportunities while PPI Motorsports focuses on restructuring the current management team for the Tide Winston Cup crew.

Joe Garone, current program director for PPI Motorsports' NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch teams and former crew chief for the No. 94 McDonald's Ford, will temporarily fulfill crew chief duties on the No. 32 Tide Ford and ultimately take a more active role in the actual competition management of PPIM's Tide Winston Cup team. Additional overall management support comes in the form of increased leadership roles for Roy McCauley, engineer for the No. 32 Tide Ford, and Pat Smith, crew chief for PPI Motorsports' No. 97 McDonald's Ford Busch car.

"We're at a point in our development where we're examining what's best for our NASCAR programs long-term," said Cal Wells III, PPI Motorsports team owner. "In looking ahead with Doug, we realized that philosophically, our visions for the team's future are somewhat different. I am confident that our newly restructured management group, which was initially formed to accommodate the growth and change of both our NASCAR teams, will continue to move this program down the right path."
