RON HORNADAY, NO. 14 CONSECO PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
HOW WAS YOUR RACE? "Good. I'm pretty happy. I think we started with new brake pads and glazed them over at the beginning, so we didn't have the stopping power that we needed. We just needed to come up here and test and find out what this Pontiac needed for rotors and brakes. But other than that, it was a good day."
ON THE LATE-RACE INCIDENT WITH STERLING MARLIN "I got into the '40' car (Marlin - underneath him - and I just don't know if he knew if was there or not. I got underneath him and he crowded me. I got the apron and I just tagged him and made him come around."
WERE YOU AS LOW AS YOU COULD GO ON THE RACE TRACK? "Oh yeah. Sterling is up there pretty good in points. I don't race Sterling that hard. I thought he knew I was there. He blocked the bottom going into one. He knew I had a pretty good run because I arced it in there and got underneath him. I just don't know if his car was too slippery up top or whatever. But he came down a little bit and I tagged him."
DO YOU FEEL PRETTY GOOD OVERALL ABOUT THE WHOLE DAY? "Yeah, you have to feel good. But there is definitely more in the car. It's a good day for us. It's at least a top 20 finish and that's what we need to keep doing. We've got to crawl before we run, but we're getting there."
BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX: [NOTE: BOBBY LABONTE HAS NOW POSTED FOUR CONSECUTIVE TOP 10 FINISHES ON ROAD COURSES - TWO TOP FIVES IN '00; TWO TOP 10s IN '01]
ON YOUR RACE "It was OK. We didn't hit anything today, so that was pretty good."
A LOT OF PEOPLE DID HIT STUFF TODAY THOUGH - WAS IT A LITTLE PHYSICAL OUT THERE? "I was off the track more than I needed it to be. But at least it was only two tires and not all four."
ANY SATISFACTION IN TODAY "Yeah - just to finish. I'm not a road racer, so just to finish here without getting anything torn up makes it OK."
JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
THAT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE MUCH FUN FOR YOU TODAY? "No, it wasn't. We struggled. We probably should have had a 20th place finish and ended up 16th. A bunch of guys wrecked coming off.
"We struggled here today and it's hard to believe. This is the same car we had at Sears Point. I ran so well there and we're having a hard time understanding why it didn't [run well] here. But we'll overcome it."
